Atomic Habits
Small 1% improvements, repeated daily, compound into huge results.
Key ideas
- Focus on systems, not goals. Goals set the direction; systems make the progress.
- Change your identity: "I'm someone who reads", not "I want to read".
- The four laws: make it obvious, attractive, easy and satisfying.
- Habit stacking — attach a new habit to one you already do.
Mind map
I drew this map while reading. Zoom in, drag around, and follow the links.
Use plus and minus to zoom, arrow keys to move, and zero to reset. Links in the map open in a new tab.
Scroll to zoom, drag to move.Pinch to zoom, drag to move. 1 link inside.
In real life
Where the ideas showed up in my own work and study.
-
At work, I made checking my dashboard the first thing after coffee. The coffee became the cue.
-
I keep my study notes open on the desktop, so starting takes zero effort (make it easy).
My opinion
Practical and easy to apply. Some ideas repeat, but the framework sticks — I still use the four laws when I design a new routine.
Notes
The book's core claim is simple: you don't rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the level of your systems.
